This white sauce recipe has changed over the years and probably will a little bit every time I make it. That is just because of what I have in the fridge I try to experiment with and use. No one wants to make another trip to the store when they don’t need to. So I’ll jot down the recipe I try to stick to but also give alternative ingredients to make this its own unique taste!
We love this on pasta. I usually add in whatever meat we have handy and pair with some brussel sprouts, asparagus, or whatever veggie we have on hand to make a delicious pasta dish! This sauce also goes great on top of chicken, adding a little mushroom or bacon into it! Yum!
1/4 cup butter
2 minced cloves garlic
3 tbsp flour
2 cups heavy cream (can use milk instead)
1 cup cheese (Parmesan, mozzarella, any white cheese, even mixing different kinds is yummy!)
2 tsp oregano ( I also use marjoram, not as commonly used as oregano but a great spice on Italian food)
1/4 tsp salt
sprinkle of pepper
Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat, add in garlic and stir in until fragrant.
Add in flour and whisk together until smooth and changes to a light color.
Gradually add in cream stirring continuously.
Add in seasoning.
Cook over low heat until mixture starts to thicken and bubble.
Remove from heat and add in cheese!
Use as needed:)
