When considering your visit, know that every season has its charm. We visted in January to leave the brisk cold of winter behind, but also because it landed the best for our schedules. The resort and island wasn't overly crowded and the weather was absolutely perfect. We had one day of heavy winds and rain, but other than that it was a perfect sunny and 75. However, research says the best time to visit is to aim for April through May or September through November. These months gerenally allow for the perfect balance of delightful weather and fewer crowds.

Activities at Andaz Maui

From culinary experiences to taking in the local culture Andaz Maui gives an array of acitivies you can take in to make sure you are getting the best experince right at the leisure of your hotel. Some activities come with an additional cost but most are included with your booking. Between laying at the pool and relaxing we only had time to take in 2 different resort activities. We also tried to take on a third with a morning row on a group Outrigger Excursion, however after the storm in the beginning of the week the waters werent calm enough for a group to go out. We were so disappointed and can't wait to retry this excursion the next time we visit to see the beautiful morning sunrise out on the blue Hawaiian ocean. Ukulele Lessons proved to be such a fun, uniquely cultural experience and had my husband strumming an "air ukulele" the whole flight home. We learned about the origins of the ukulele and how it actually came from the Portugese settlers who were brought into Hawaii to help educate on certain local crop & wild life. We both found this story extra intriguing because we happen to be Portuguese ourselves. We also did a Lei Making class where we each created a circle of love for our partners. My lei was left open, as I was pregnant on this trip and they told us the meaning of leaving the lei open is as a welcoming for the baby. Our instructor also added a stem of a flower from my lei and a stem of a flower from my husbands lei tied on each end to symbolize the bond of parents to child. Taking these classes really shared more of the beautiful culture and traditions. We truly enjoyed this added perk that the Andaz includes.

Culinary Delights

At Andaz Maui, every meal is a journey through Hawaii's bountiful produce and rich tastes. Our first night we ate at Morimoto Maui where you can Indulge in iron chef-crafted sushi and fusion dishes. Where to Stay in Hana

We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days in he picturesque Hana Maui Resort. Hana-Maui Resort is located in Hana town, where guests will find a blend of aloha spirit and coastal charm. This secluded luxury hotel offers travelers a beautiful place to escape on Hawaii’s eastern coast, with proximity to renowned beaches, tropical forests and waterfalls, and the majestic Pacific Ocean. This place was nothing short of a beautiful botanical oasis, filled with lush green surroundings and tranquility. Exacly what you hope for in a relaxing vacation in Paradise. The hotel features very spacious accomadations in bungalows, villas or suites to fit your entire family.  Each bungalow features a terrace with amazing ocean views and a refrigerator with complimentary bottled water. Waikaloa Suites offer a fully equipped kitchen and a TV with cable channels in the living room. We stayed in a bungalow and did not have a tv, which was just fine for us to get in tune with the majestic surroundings. However, if you are a fall-asleep-to-the-tv type of person you may want to opt for a suite to get that perk. The Spa at Hana-Maui Resort offers massages, body treatments, and facials. Two outtdoor pools and hot tubs are provided at this resort. The larger pool down by the ocean bungalows was close to our room and has a bar with full drinks and snacks. Order a Pina Colada for us!! Your stay will also include designated attractions like lei making, coconut painting, golf, tennis and so much more all on the facilities. You are also are a short drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

Beaches to Visit

Some of the most beautiful beaches and landmarks are in Hana but the beauty is truly in enjoying them all! Depending on what adventure you'd most like to take will decide what areas and locations you will like to go and see. Hamoa beach is a world renowned white sand beach and was probably our personal favorite, but we highly recommend visiting the black sand beach as well just for the experiance. The black sand beach is very rocky and the waves are rough so I sat under an umbrella most of the time (being pregnant), and I didnt want to get knocked over by a crashing wave. Scott enjoyed the water and did a small hike on the side of the beach area up the lava rock to get a birds eye view. The beach is small and nestled inside of a State Park, so reservations are required to avoid congestion. Be sure to book ahead of time as well and a fee of $20 will be required.

Where to Eat on the way & in Hana

As you navigate the enchanting Road to Hana, prepare to be captivated by the rich colors and delightful scents on every roadside fruit stands. These local gems are where the island's plentiful harvest truly shines, beckoning travelers to take a moment and indulge in the sweet treasures of the earth. Imagine biting into bananas bursting at the seams with ripeness, savoring succulent mangoes that seem to melt with taste, and discovering the exotic charm of the whimsical dragon fruit, ready to delight your palate. I have never eaten so much fruit on a trip in my life. The deliciuosly large amounts of pineapple I ate had my mouth watering but also a in pain a bit from all the acidic juices that I wasn't used to. I have been craving this amazing fruit everyday since we left, so please eat some extra for me.

These roadside stands are more than pitstops; they are narrative capsules of Maui's agricultural heritage, operated by families who've tended the land for generations. You’ll not just feed your body but nourish your soul with stories of cultivation, tradition, and community. Savor the essence of Hawaii with a selection of tropical fruits, enriching your travel with flavors that are as local as the landscape. Relish the warmth of familial hospitality that is served up with the fresh produce, a charming facet of Hana's small-town life. Delight in homemade treats from these stands, such as banana bread, that add a layer of sweetness to your adventure. By supporting these fruit stands, you're joining the narrative of Hana. You're stepping into its daily rhythm and savoring its fruits, both literal and metaphorical, nestled against the backdrop of lush, natural beauty.

Hana Bowls

One of our favorite morning roadside stands was Hana Bowls, where we stopped for an acai bowl as we departed from Hana and headed to Wailea on a different side of the island. This charming stand was filled with deliciously fresh food and had the most freindly man and woman filled with great spirit. We both got different bowls filled with acai, granola, fresh fruits and honey. This was a perfect healthy morning breakast on the road. Their stand is open Monday - Thursday from 7:30 am to 3 pm its a perfect stop for breakfast, lunch or a snack. The menu includes bowls, smoothies and drinks.

Hana Farms

We visited Hana Farms after spending the afternoon at the Black Sand Beach. They feature a large pizza menu and a roadside market filled with trinkets and snacks. The wood-fired pizza was amazing and made for a perfect spot on the road to refuel. Open 8 am - 6 am daily and dine-in for pizza & salads is 11am - 3:30 pm.

Huli Huli Chicken

We found out about this place from the nicest employee at our hotel. He said its one of the best places to grab lunch when visiting Hamoa Beach. Boy are we So glad we did! This meal was probably my favorite meal of our entire trip and is just a quick grab and sit by the water in a to-go box or to take back to your room. I highly, highly recommend grabbing a meal here! Don't be surprised, however, as this place is not a restaurant and is just a walk up, family bbq, outdoor picnic bench style type of perfection. Their stand became so known worldwide that even Gordon Ramsey visited and gave great reviews to help put them on the map, a clip of it here! Open 11am - 3pm.

Food at Hana-Maui Resort

Our hotel had what we could find was the only sit down restaurant on this part of the island. We ate daily breakfast at the main dining room with so many options it was the perfect way to start our day. We also enjoyed our first meal of the trip at the Hana Ranch Restaurant located just a short walk down the street from the hotel entrance in their new renovated space. Do yourself a favor and be sure to get their Hana Ranch sticky ribs! Another spot to enjoy during the day was by one of the two hotel pools. We loved the bar's pina colada's, virgin for me and regular for Scotty! It made for a relaxing cap to our day after hitting the beaches all afternoon.

The Historic Bridge Crossings

The various bridges along the Road to Hana are chapters in the island's history, scenic interludes that provide picturesque frames for the rushing waterfalls and verdant gullies they span. Each crossing is a statement of endurance and the enduring appeal of a simpler, more rustic Maui. More than 50 bridges, many holding the distinction of single-lane passages, beckon for careful navigation and a sense of bygone adventure. These bridges are not just connectors of land but of experiences, offering uninterrupted sightlines to places where civilization seems to pause. Experience every crossing as a journey through time, where each bridge heralds a history as rich as the views it affords. Embrace the rustic charm of these historic structures and the surprising visual tales they unveil. Check local bridge conditions, particularly during inclement weather, to ensure that each passage remains safe and gratifying. These bridges are not mere structures; they are invitations to the soulful spirit of Hana's ageless allure.

The Welcoming Gateway of Twin Falls

Among the first of many natural wonders on the Road to Hana, Twin Falls sets the stage for an aquatic ballet choreographed by nature itself. Easily accessible, it offers respite and awe without demanding an arduous trek. Here, amid the emerald embrace of the rainforest, you can surrender to the visual symphony of cascades or partake in the cool embrace of the pool's waters. Nearby fruit stands promise to satiate wanderlust with sweet, energizing offerings straight from the island's bosom. With a mere stroll from the parking area, immerse yourself in the tranquility of Twin Falls' surroundings. Replenish your spirit and your senses with a dip in the freshwater pools that beckon with their calm allure. Nourish your journey with nature’s bounty at local fruit stands, enhancing the magic of your Maui adventure. Twin Falls, in its serene grandeur, encapsulates the enchantment of the Hana Highway, promising more splendor, more stories, and more smiles as you wind your way through Maui's heartland.
